A Green Soul Native Bees provides a range of services to individuals and organisations

Hive Splitting Service

If you are worried about splitting your hive or would like to learn the process I am able to assist you.

My service includes:

  • Splitting the hive into 2 separate hives

  • Extracting honey for you

  • Supplying a new box

  • Teaching you how to split – what to look for

I use traditional OATH shaped hives (200 wide x 280 deep). If you have a different shaped hive I can either retro fit an OATH hive using adaptor plates or custom build you a hive to match your size.

My charges are:

  • $100 labour/travel/extras between Sunshine Coast to Gold Coast and out to Ipswich. This initial fee covers 2 splits. For each additional split there is a $40 fee.

  • $120 for a new quality made Hoop Pine OATH box (see my separate add for details). This is optional – if you have your own box that’s fine.

So for $220 I can come to your place, provide a brand new box, split your hive and give you the honey, and you end up with two hives.

I also provide other splitting options including:

  1. I can split your hive for free and pay you $150 for the middle section. No costs to you – you get $150 for half your hive. I will guarantee your first hive for 12 months – so if it dies after the split I will provide a new one (terms and conditions apply).

  2. I can split your hive for free but in 12 months will split again and take the two middle halves. This costs you nothing and you get 2 hives.

Hive Eduction Services

Are you worried about splitting hives and would rather educt from your hive to create a new nest? I am happy to assist in this process.

My service includes:

  • Preparing the new box (unless you use your own)

  • Providing eduction materials – pipes, propolis, observation window etc

  • Installing the eduction set up

  • Ongoing advice on how to monitor/manage the eduction

  • Further visit to unhook eduction (additional fees apply)

 My charges are:

  • $120 labour/travel/extras between Sunshine Coast to Gold Coast and out to Ipswich. This initial fee covers the set up of up to two eductions. For each additional eduction there is a $40 fee. NOTE that if your eduction is from a log it may require a rubber funnel which will be an added cost.

  • $120 for a new quality made Hoop Pine OATH box (see my Products). This is optional – if you have your own box that’s fine.

 So for $240 I can come to your place and set up an eduction with a brand new box.

If you require me to come out and separate and then seal up the back eduction hole this will be an additional $100.

NOTE: There are risks with educting hives and these can include:

·       The loss of both the daughter and mother hives to pests

·       The bees ignoring the eduction box i.e. not setting up the nest

·       The bees using the eduction box for honey and pollen storage only.

·       The original queen migrating into the eduction box leaving the mother hive queenless.

Eduction requires constant monitoring and intervention if necessary.

Native Bee Relocations

 If you have a native bee nest in your water metre box, letterbox, pot plant or anywhere else on your property I can relocate it free of charge.


If you think you have a nest but are not sure then please contact me and I can discuss with you or send me a photo.

If you want to keep the nest I can provide a box and transfer labour for a cost – just contact me to discuss how much this might be depending on the nest circumstances. A rough cost would be $120 for box and $100 for labour.
